As the only full orchestra on the North Shore, this group attracts a variety of experienced non-professional musi- cians who delight in perfurming works spanning the years from Gluck and Telemann, to Vaughan Williams and Prokofiev. The mood of their music ranges from fugues and minuets to jazz and pase doble. Wednasday, September 17, 1997 — North Shore News — 43 Orchestra season opens Conductor Anita Sieeman has just returned from an international sympo- sium in Italy on women in music, repre- senting the Association of Canadian Women Composers. Sleeman is a former faculty member of Capilano College's music transfer program. She has many commissioned works behind her, some of which the Ambleside Orchestra has per- formed. The group invites violin and viola players to join the orchestra, particularly advanced string, students who would ben- efit from an orchestral experience. In the wind section, the oboe and one French horn chair are vacant. Auditions are not required, but an intermediate level of sight reading is recommended.
