Thanks to the collaboration
between General Motors and two
Hollywood companies, Wamer
Bros. Studios and Silver Pictures,
16 concept cars from GM's past
collection got an extended lease on
life.

As a matter of fact, these vehi-
cles literally became multi-mition
dollar “movie stars.”

General Motors’ Ultralite concept-car impressed Hollywood producer Joel Si!ver so much that
he. used the it, along with 15 other concept cars, in his action movie Demolition Man.

Ultralite concept car in a magazine,
movie producer Joel Silver of
Silver Pictures called GM and
asked if the automaker would sup-
ply prototypes and concept vehicies
to be used it his movie. Demolition
Man, which stars Sylvester Stallone

and Wesley Snipes. Demolition
Man opened last October, and
quickly became a hit among young
people.

This bad-versus-goud movie
takes place in the year 2032, and
Silver needed drivable automobiles

of the future that would give the
movie the realistic look and feel of
the 21st century.

GM's 16 concept vehicles, val-

ued at some CDNS$90 miffion, were

the perfect props for Silver's latest
high-tech thrifler movie.

While the Ultralite received
most of the on-sercen exposure in
Demolition Man, the other 13 con-
cept cars played ant iMpartanl part
in the movie. They include: the
Wildeat sports car from Buick,
Cadiflac Voyage, sporty Chevrolet
Stingray U1 California Camara,
Sithouette from Oldsmobile.
Pontiac Sunfire and the Pontite
Banshee.

The Banshee concept car was
featured in Vancouver's Auto Show
afew years back, and its styling
became the basis for the current
1994 Pontiac Trans Am.
