NEWS photo Mike Wakefield WEST VANCOUVER Seniors’ Activity Centre, located at 695 21st St in West Vancouver, will be holding its ‘‘Seniors’ Show and Tell’’ open house on Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The open house wil! feature displays of visual art, hobbies and crafts, table tennis, Tai Chi, dancing, fitness, putting and billiards. There will be information booths throughout the centre dealing with money management, health, languages, bridge, Mah Jong, hiking, goli, tennis, baseball and cycting. The Senior Orchestra and 50-member choir will perform. The hobbies and crafts department will cffer door prizes. News columnist receives Sanderson media award NORTH SHORE News columnist Joy Metcalfe was recently named winner of the Sandy Sanderson Media Award by the B.C. Restau- rant and Foodservices Associa- tion, The award was established to honor journalist Sandy Sanderson, a member of the media in Van- couver for many years and chronicler of the unfolding hospi- tality scene in this province. Publisher Teresa Evans, the award’s 1991 winner, presented the 1992 award to Metcalfe at a banquet at the Four Seasons. Joy Metcalfe, Evans said, ‘‘has influenced and benefited the in- dustry during the last year. She is being honored as a champion in the great Sanderson journalistic tradition.” Metcalfe has had a distinguish- ed career in Vancouver as a public relations representative, a colum- nist and a broadcaster. Since the late ’60s, Metcalfe has chronicled the activities of Van- couver’s business and entertain- ment communities through reports JOY METCALFE about tourism, hotels, restaurants, charities, movie stars and local residents. In addition, Metcalfe has assisted dozens of charitable and arts organizations including UNICEF, Canadian Diabetes, Big Brothers and Children’s Hospital. Theatre matinee visits planned THE NORTH Shore Neighbour- hood Horse will soon be hosting monthly trips for seniors to visit the Arts Club Theatre on Gran- ville Istand. Participants will have the op- portunity to see plays, meet the cast members and enjoy com- plimentary refreshments. The first trip, scheduled to run Wednesday, April 15, will be to see Celestina, a 15th century love story.
