High-speed chase A'NORTH Vancouver man faces several charges follow- ing 2 high-speed police chase. According to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman, a vehicle was observed Feb. 10 squealing tires at the Westview Shopping Centre at approximately 2:43 a.m. The police then pursued the suspect vehicle, a Cougar XR7. But it sped away, allegedly reaching speeds of 140 to 160 km/h along De!brook Avenuc. The car crossed the Upper Levels Highway at Westview and went out of contro! in the 2100-block of Westview Drive, crashing into trees. Jason Carter, 19, and Daniel Lins, 19, both of North Vancouver, were not injured. Carter faces charges of failing to stop for police, driv- ing while disqualified and dangerous driving. Jewelry stolen A NORTH Vancouver jewelry store was robbed of ap- proximately $5,000 worth of rings on Feb. 7. According to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman, the theft occurred at approximately 1 p.m. at the Lynn Valiey Centre OB Allan Jewellers outlet. The male suspected of stealing the rings is described by police as being approximatety six feet tall, with straight blond hair and a clean-shaven face. The suspect was wearing a beige overcoat. Most of the rings stolen were diamond. Information regarding this theft may be forwarded to the North Vancouver RCMP at 985-1311. Opening delayed WAVE POOL enthusiasts will have to wait another two weeks before they can get their feet wet in the North Shore’s first wave pool. The Karen Magnussen Wave Pool, located inside rec- Centre Karen Magnussen, 937 Lynn Valley Rd., North Vancouver, was tentatively set to apen on Feb. 19. But the opening has now been postponed until March 4to make sure the structure's tile grouting is set. The facility will be open free to the public on March 5, 6 and 7. it will include a therapy pool, a wave pool, a hot tub, 2 toddlers’ tub and # games pool. Programs to be offered at the facility will include “dive-in movies,’ ‘‘suffer Suturdays’’ and ‘‘after-school play leaders.”’ In addition, the North Vancouver Recreation Com- mission’s ‘*‘Works’’ package will give package holders free access to the wave pool. The coordinator also acts as a liaison and public relations officer for the school and is responsible for the operation of District 45’s continuing education program on Bowen. The coordinator’s current an- nual salary is $12,000. Blair-Whitechead countered that when the Bowen Island School joined District 45 in 1986, it was understood by residents of the island that the programs in place at the time would not be threat- ened. But District 45 superintendent Doug Flayer said the agreement in 1986 makes no mention of the district having to keep a com- munity services coordinator on staff at the community school.
