Environmental meeting set

A JUNE 22 Save Howe Sound

Society meeting has been scheduled
for 8 p.m. at the Lions Bay Village
Hall, 400 Centre Rd., Lions Bay,
to address the various environment
issues currently affecting Howe
Sound.

The society was formed in the

last two months to focus attention
on the environment in general and
the Howe Sound environment in
particular.

The meeting will be a public in-
formation session.

Seniors urged
to check returns

COUNSELLORS AT the North
Shore Information and Volunteer
Centre (985-7138) are alerting all!
seniors to check out their net in-
come on their income tax returns
for this year.

They may find they are eligible
for premium assistance under the
Medical Services Plan, as are other
people with low incomes.

Seniors and others with an in-
come of between $9,000 and
$13,000 a year can get 55 per cent
off their monthly Medical Services
Pian premiums.

Those with an income of fess

_ than $9,000 can get up to 95 per

cent off.

This means that people in the
higher tax bracket, who would
normally pay $31 a month, might
only pay $13.95, and for those
below $9,000 the premium could
be as low as $1.55.

Couples in the higher bracket
who now pay $55 for the month
would pay $24.75 with the 55 per
cent assistance, and those couples
qualifying for the 95 per cent
premium assistance would pay on-
ly $2.75

In addition, those who qualify
for assistance would not have to
pay the usual $5 user fee for
chiropractic, podiatric and other
treatments.

assistance are available from the
Ministry of Health, Medical Ser-
vices Plan, Box 1600, Victoria,

V8W 2X9.
