Save lives with CPR

LEARN TO save lives by develop-
ing skills in Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR). Eagle Har-
bour Community Centre in West
Vancouver is offsring two pro-
grams.

A Babysaver CPR course will
take place on Monday, April 24
from 6:15 to 10:15 p.m. This

four-hour certification course is
designed for parents, nannies and
others involved in infant care.

Participants will learn to ad-
minister CPR and techniques for
rescuing choking infants or
children. Child safety will be
discussed and a manual is includ-
ed.

Learn to
play bridge

SIGN UP now for a crash course
in the geme of bridge at recCentre
Lynn Valley’s Bridge-in-a-Day
workshops.

Beginning players will learn the
basics of bridge, including bidding,
scoring and playing hands. Par-
ticipants will leave with the fun-
damental skills that will enable
them to play and enjoy this card
game.

Instructor Anthony Burt has
been an avid bridge player for over
20 years and has taught the game
for the past three years in Van-
conver. He will teach two beginner
level Bridge-in-a-Day workshops
on April 29 and May 27, 9 a.m. to
4 p.m., at recCentre Lynn Valley.

Participants should bring a
lunch and a notebook and pencil.
Fee is $18.

A CPR Heartsaver workshop
will be offered Monday, May 29
from 6:15 to 10:15 p.m. The
workshop will cover factors con-
tributing to heart attacks, skills to
provide CPR and manoeuvres to
relieve choking victims. A CPR
certificate and manual will be in-
cluded.

French
winners
go to
UBC

SHERWOOD PARK Elementary
School recently hosted the North
Vancouver School District finals of
the Concours d’Art Oratoire, a
French public speaking contest
held every year in conjunction with
the Parents for French Associa-
tion.

Students from Grade 6 to 12
compete in Immersion Fran-
cophone and French as a Second
Language categories. This year’s
contest included a range of topics
dealing with personal experiences,
personal opinions, and the sharing
of information.

The winners of each category
will go on to a provincial competi-
tion to be held at the University of
British Columbia on Saturday,
April 22.

Elementary; 6e Francophone: Alex
Dabuzinski of North Star; 7e Im-
mersion: Sarah Chalke of Cleve-
land Elernentary; 7e Francophone:
