Doug Collins ® get this straight ® SORRY ABOUT this. Was going to write about the guy in West Van whose bees go doo-doo onthe neighbors. But the immigration story won't go away. It is a rolling stone that gathers lots of moss. North Vancouver-Burnaby MP Chuck Cook rang me to say he is not pleased with the illegal im- migrant business, and that he was going on the radio about it. His comments might make a column, he said. «nd he was right, in a way. Head cocked like a retriever on the prowl for quail, I waited for Chuck to fire his gun. Was he go- ing to denounce Brian Baloney as just another Trudeau out to screw us? Would he renounce multicult and all its works? Alas, slumber soon called. One of Cook's points was that written the rules under which we cannot take an invading army by the scruff of its neck and toss it back whence it came. Also, said this Cookie, it was the opposition that was really to blame. Left to themselves, the Tories would already have enacted Bill C-55, which would sart some of the phony refugee wheat from the chaff. Yes, the lousy opposition had let us down again. Pardon me, old man. You forgot to mention that yau, the Liberals and the NDP are all one in this. Parliament versus the peo- Brian Baloney have trouble sen- ding Mary Collins and others to Ethiopia to kiss Col. Mengistu the commie? Asked whether he agreed with Bill Vander Zalin that the Alvrelia should have been sold for scrap and the phonies returned to the far places, Chuck gave a gandy- dancer's answer: “Yes and Na.” Oh, he did agree that the whole thing wits a mess. And he did wish it were different. But we have laws, ete. Chuck, stop talking out of both sides of vour foudhiuiler. First, you know that Bill C-55 wou't change much. True, it will speed up the hearings kindly given to phony refugees. They won't have five years in which to take root. But if a Robert Satiagum) wanted on criminal charges in the U.S. can be classed as a refugee, anybody can. So they'll get to stay anyway. Furthermore, C-55 is a case of put and take. The relatives of the invading hordes will find it even easier to get in than they do now. Which is saying something. As lawyer Luke van der Horst has told you, “Give us some action.”’ Cook seemed to be sad, in- cidentally, that I recently describ- ed him as a dedicated multiculter, the Multicultural Society of Bur- naby a while back, and wasn't the headline over that story in the North Shore News “Chuck Cook Reaffirms Multicultural Policv''? And isn’t that policy all part of allowing thousands of cheats and lars to barge in to this country? Come off it, old boy. We slub- berdeguilions cannot be conned that way. Go give a talk to the North Shore Women's Centre. * * * Concerning Mr. van der Horst. He's the gent who organized those ads asking people to protest to their MPs about the refugee mess. (See Page 7 of last Wednesday's paper.) Other Tories are also in revolt. One of his co-sizners -- Ascher Smith of West Van -- was a con- tributor to Mulroney's succesful leadership bid. Another was Frank Cecconi, a sometime Cook campaign manager. And a woman who brandished copies of the ad while waiting in a post office line- up was nearly knocked down in the rush. Tel: 682-6221. wasn't he the ane who addressed A, A LYNN Valley couple has finally persuaded North Vancouver District Council to build a $25,000 sidewalk outside their home at Lynn Valley Road and St. Christophers Road. The process started for Norman Duplissie and his wife Diane last November when they wrote to coun- cil requesting the sidewalk. Monday night, after pleading his case in front of Mayor Marilyn Baker and four of six district aldermen, Duplissie was told the sidewalk would be built if money is available from the municipality’s Sundry Land Acquisition Fund. He expressed his concern about the safety of his two young children who must illegally cross Lynn Valley Road when they leave home because there is nothing between the busy main thoroughfare and the end of his property line. The new sidewalk will cost $25,000 to construct and if the money is available in the Sundry Land Ac- quisition Fund, construction could start as early as next week, said Harry McBride, deputy director for outside services.
