Who should judge whether fetus dies? Dear Editor: In your editorial, Abortion Judges?, you pose questions relating to doctors’ decisions which must be made in regard to the danger of pregnancy to the mother’s health and the kind of care her child might receive after birth. We know that abortion is far More dangerous to a woman's health than pregnancy, which is a Natural function needing only pe- fiodic monitoring to ensure that the mother is receiving sufficient nutrition. Medical knowledge is such that any problems during pregnancy can be corrected. The Alberta Medical Association recently confirmed that most so- called ‘therapeutic’ abortions are not legitimate medical procedures at all and said that they should not be funded by Medicare. As for the child’s chances in life, surely we are able to offer help in this regard and not just the death sentence. The implication of your message seems to be that some human beings are better off dead than faced with the possibility of a hard life. Are doctors more qualified that the rest of us in the ‘real’ world to make such a decision? One has to wonder just how professional they are when they seek to disrupt the functioning of a hospital because they are restricted in their decisions by concern by others for the lives of their smallest patients. Statistics can be interesting, but every baby is given up for adop- tion) and how they treat this un- wanted child. Where are the Statistics on child abuse later? Personally, I feel an aborted fetus is preferable to the physical abortion, we also need to study child abuse as there is often a close relationship. Walton North Vancouver Dear Editor: Congratulations, and not con- demnation, are in order for News columnist Doug Collins upon his recent addressing of a_ hideous social injustice — the insistence of our judicial authorities to permit Charles Ng to stay in Canada. Time certainly heals all wounds, including those afflicted by the. public upon the honorable reputa- tion of a suspected mass murderer/mutilator. I would wager that 90 per cent of all in- telligent readers (myself included) foolishly assumed that sometime after that memorable story of 1985 ceased to be news, Ng had been quietly deported to trial and preb- able execution in the United States. However, this is obviously far from the truth. Collins, true to form, sets the record ‘‘straight’’ by drawing to the readers’ attention the obscene injustices so prevalent in our ‘‘justice”’ system. Indeed, what sort of rational be- ing could devise a system in which law-abiding, non-murderous aliens are mercilessly tracked down, ap- prehended and returned home by the Canadian government, yet this same government will fight in- definitely for the protection of aliens who are suspected murderers? Hopefully Collins’ timely. piece on the subject will generate sufficient interest to bring it once again to national attention. In the meantime, my advice to any potential immigrant concerned about being deported due to Canada’s new laws: go kill some- body. And the more you kill, the better your chance of a brief jail “term, parole within three years, ‘and all the police protection you need!
