During hee performance, Pap- pas, who spent about 60 hours writing the song Flame of Peace, will be surrounded by members of the Vancouver Children’s Choir and native leaders “Pim really excited about it, she said Wednesday. “PT wrote the song which is very Indian in its way, concerning the flame. saying that we've goto to hold it in our hearts." + FLAME LIT The flame Pappas refers to was first fit in the Stein Valley last winter, and will be brought to the stadium during the peace rally. Pappas has also recently released a cassette of her songs, including one in honour of her friend, Haida artist Bil Reid. The song is called Guaawa- Hanas, which means land of the beautiful island, and is dedicated to the preservation of the Queen Charlotte Istands. Reid was born in Skidegate, on the islands. Through the song I've been able to explain that to people,’* she said. RL ER-UP Another song by Pappas that has proven popular is called Van- couver: City of the Century, It was a runner-up in the Vancouver Song writing contest, held prior to Expo 86. Pappas said she tried to incor- porate as many aspects about Vancouver to make the song a true rendition for all residents. She had 1,000 cassettes printed, and so far has only 300 left. Many of the cassettes Pappas has given away as gifts to friends and visiting tourists at Expo. She’s performed there about a half dozen times since the fair opened, including Aug. 4 for B.C, Day.
