Building on their reputation for refreshing, innovative and occa- sionally bizarre musical presentat- ions, Voiceworks will be using their time machine theme us a fourth dimensional omnibus to transport the audience to a variety of musical periods. The endless possibilities reflect the diversity of music to be cx- pected in this latest concert, as well as the versatility of the two prin- cipal performers, Gillian Hunt and Rupert Lang. Formed in carly 1985, Voiceworks Studio is the result of the merged talents of Hunt and Lang, both professional musicians residing in West Vancouver, While the concerts provide their greatest public exposure, they also femain active between perfor- mances giving courses, workshops and private lessans on vocal development and singing tech- nique. Never having performed together before, the pooling of their different talents spawned a new sound for classics, standards and other repertoire, presented ina Sight-hearted format which has bevome the Voiceworks trademark. While Timepiece will build upon the popular segments of the earlier concert, Voiceworks is determined not to rest on past laurels. Their new concert includes a greatly ex- panded scope and variety of mate- ial and will employ additional in- struments with backup musicians Murray Grant and Sacha Faffaert. Hunt, the principal vocalist: of the Voiceworks team, is originally from Wales but moved to Mon- treal at an carly age and there began her formal vocal training. She then moved te Toronto where she graduated fron: the Royal Conservatory of Music and em- barked on her performance career. Since arriving in West) Van- couver {wo years ago, she has already established herself as a popular performer and singing teacher, Lang performs all the keyboard instruments in Voiceworks and provides the other half of vocal duets. A native born British Col- umbian, he started his training on the organ in Regina, and later graduated in music from the Uni- versity of Manitoba. Lang is currently the organist and music director at West Van- couver United Church, and is also the founder and director of the Vancouver Children’s Choir. He has composed and arranged a wide variety of music, including the humorous Concerto for Piano, Organ Pedal and Vacuum Cleaner.
