For almost three quarters the game took on all the appearances of the old Alphonse-Gaston routine with mistakes and turnovers destroying what could have been a great game. However, the good guys won in the end setting the Stage for the big one this Sunday. A new coach and a new home for the Lions didn’t upset the team as many had wondered before the season began. After the Vic Rapp era, Don Matthews came to town and was quietly able to pul together a strong and stable team. When Tom Clements and the Bomberrs had that big game a week or so ago against the faded, jaded Eskimos, all the ‘experts’ began to think that this team could go all the way. But for the Bombers, it was the first time they had been reasonably healthy in the quarterback department for some time. And the Esks just didn’t have it. The long layoff didn’t help Lions, but they managed to put their game together late in the third quarter and came on strong to overwhelm Win- nipeg proving that they deserved to be on top. And on Sunday, playing at home, don’t think thase Lions won’t be pumped up.
