A& - Sunday News, October 11, 1981 Dear Editor: “~My wife drove to Hor- séshoe Bay to catch a ferry and, as. the ferry car-park was’ full, proceeded to search for alternative parking. This was about 5:45 pm, Saturday, September 5. She “found some vacant ground behind the Texaco ' station, this station being on the corner of Bruce and Bay Streets across from Trolls. A number of cars were parked _on this vacant ground and “dined: up in orderly rows. She ‘parked the car in a suitable space, and looked around for an attendant but was unable to find anybody on duty. She noticed that the other cars did not display any parking tickets. As time was short to catch the ferry she left and reasoned that she would see a parking attendant on her return. At 10:45 .am Monday (Labour Day) it was found that the car had been moved and it was-located in the Texaco station aréa with the right front wheel removed. Information was given that the’ car had been im- pounded, and a_ bill was _ already prepared for $20 plus one day's. parking at $4. The wheel was replaced and the car released. The Texaco official was very busy and it was not possible to discuss this ar- bitrary penalty. Further, there was again nobody acting as an attendant to the cars in the adjacent “parking” area. It was noticed that a number of other cars were in the Texaco area, also with a wheel removed. IT am sure all members of the public would take ex- ception to extortion of this nature. There was no question of.any reluctance to pay a parking fee, and to ‘impose a penalty like this, is in my opinion, high-handed. . A copy of this letter is being sent to the West Vancouver Municipality, the extremely Chief of Police, West Vancouver, and the manager, Texaco Inc., Vancouver. It is hoped that something can be done to regulate those concerned. Incidents like this leave a_ very distasteful impression, and will do nothing to induce visitors and tourists to spend money there. H.C. Barnes West Vancouver Dear Editor: I am direly upset with the performance of the so-called Post Office. Each member of my family has paid his/her$1i.00 to inform them of our move. So far, our money hasn't worked for us. To this-day, I am delivering mail to family. members because some yellow-sticker-happy-boob likes to place my name on everybody else’s mail. Also, I have been waiting quite some time for my Income Tax Return, and my ‘Society gone mad’ Dear Editor: Jeanne Holmes’ letter is superb. Kudos to you for publishing it! She’s good reason to be b----- mad and certainly to be scared. Will enough Canadians arouse themselves from their complacency ... They surely need to! It is encouraging to know someone else feels need for not only a return to a death penalty but use of it for rapists, terrorists, armed robbers, hostage takers, hijackers, et al. I’ve advocated it for years, apathy? Unemployment to come through — to mention a few. To my discovery, I have been informed that my long- awaited mail has arrived to my doorstep but has been turned back due to some bonehead who decided for themselves that I didn’t live there any more. I . should have received my -. Unemployment when I was six months pregnant. I am due any time now and am still waiting. Further, if I am to be delivering mail every day, I and, as an ea-police officer (U.K.) totally condemn the (so-called) imposition of it only for murderers of police and guards, Farcical! Our real criminals are those who have the ability to change things ... to greatly diminish our crime ... and fail to do so. We are a society gone mad. Who could have any confidence in govt.competently to run a bath?
