Hospital extends hours

‘Visiting hours at Lions
Gate Hospital have just been
extended on most wards.

Joyce Campbell, Nursing
Director, says the move is
made to level out the great
surge of visitors in the late
afternoon. It is also to
accommodate the many
people who work shifts.

There are a few excep-
tions, but most wards will

now be open to visitors from
ll a.m. to 8. p.m. dajly.
Hours are even. longer for
parents visiting their child-
ren, for new fathers visiting
their wives on the maternity
floor and for close relatives
visiting the intensive care
unit.

The Extended Care Unit
has always had visiting from
early morning to 8 p.m. and
this will continue.

hand, nurses and doctors

that with extension of visit-
ing, nurses will have to keep
an eye on patients to ensure
that no one gets an overdose
of well-meaning visitors.

She reminds visitors that a
short, quiet visit is great for a
patient's morale. But, she
adds, patients tire quickly.

Children may visit in most
areas with permission.
