was flooded” with orange

muddy water to the depth of .

our car doors. We were
stuck in a line of seven

hundred cars waiting to slosh
our way through.
Imagine five people

¢rammed into a small car.
The heat was intense, but if
you opened the car windows
to get a bit of air, a hundred
ravenous mosquitoes came
in for lunch.

The kids started singing |

“Row, row, row your boat,”
I cuffed the one who added
the line, “Throw your
mother overboard. Listen to
her scream!”

After an ‘hour- or- so of -

rough paddling, -we returned |

to our condo. The rain had
forced its way under the
sliding .glass doors and the
carpet was a soggy mess. So
were several -books, a
package of cigarettes, four
pages of “Travel-Wise” and a
husband's shirt.

But—it was middle-
daughter’s twelfth birthday
so we dressed up and headed
for the Maui Lu to celebrate.

Fantastic evening! The
Maui Lu_ has .a. huge
“restaurant called the

“Longhouse” complete with
Hawaiian floor show and a
dance band.

The kids loved the show,
but even more, they loved
