BRING SPRING INDOORS Tips help cut tulips last LONG A mainstay of the outdoor flower garden, tulips are becoming more and more popular as cut flowers for indoor arrangements. This is due in part to the wide tange of forms and colors in which tulips are available, and also to the long period over which quality cut blooms can be purchased. Thanks to technical progress, tulip flowers are now available for six full months — November to May — quite an achievement when you consider that they normally bloom outside for, at the most, about a month and a half in the spring. GREAT BEAUTY The tips below will help you en- ‘joy the great beauty of the tulip. one of ‘Holland’s greatest treasures. To keep them in bloom for as long as possible with little care, just follow these few simple steps: ® When you take your bunch of tulips home, don’t leave them in rear window of the car, wilting ir the sunshine; on the other hand, don’t let them freeze. * Cut off the white section from the bottom of the stem with a sharp knife as soon as possible after purchase. ®Wrap the tulips firmly in paper and stand them in a bucket of water in a cool spot for an hour or so (causing the stems to stiffen and, thus better support the flowers). Do not tet the paper touch the water. This treatment can be repeated if the tulips hang their heads after a couple of days. é PRIDEMASTER 2) “CLEANING SYSTEMS Carpet Cleaning Special INTRODUCTORY OFF ER 40% CARPET CLEANING 2 5 % off Upholstery Offer expires March 19, 1987 “Call & See the Difference ‘Pride’ makes”’ 988-7852 iake FLOWER FOOD * Add cut flower food (available at garden centres) to the vase to greatly extend the life of the blooms. e Always use a clean vase and clean water and change it regularly. © If possible, keep the tulips in a spot slightly below 20 C (70 F) and put them in a cool spot for the night. This will help them last an extra day or two. Tulips continue to grow in the vase, so always place them deeply into the container to prevent them from growing crookedly. 54 25 sq. ft. 54 29 sq. ft. cTiLeE SPECTAC 23 - Friday, March “LAST CALL Did You Sleep Well Last Nite “| want your bed business”’ up to "59 % OFF while they last [rs | | SIMMON'S BEAUTYREST YOU WANT THE BEST BUY, THEN BUY THE BEST Deluxe Luxury Quintessence $1270° Reg. $1460° Reg. $1790 Reg. $605 Sale $995 Sale $1199 Sale Queen Queen Queen Simmons DEEP SLEEP (deluxe) Reg.
