Loucks wants a regional solid waste disposal policy which would include the Fraser Valley as well as Greater Vancouver and says there should be greater public participation § in planning facilities. Loucks is chairman of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) Solid Waste Subcommittee and at the last meeting of GVRD board of directors he called on the provincial Ministry of Environment to take a leadership role in dealing with solid wastes. Meanwhile, the GVRD is buying time as Coquitlam and other major landfills reach completion point and the problem of how to dispose of solid waste becomes a regional crisis.
