JD: We are starting to realize, that the old” way of distributing films isn’t ‘working. We haven’t devel a Canadian market-_ place. What I'd like to sce is more screen time for Canadian films. As it is now, what is kind of exciting, is we have a number of things converging. We have the audience’s interest in our own films maturing tc the point where people actually will go sce Kised, for example, in its theatrical release, even ‘fic only gets a very brief window u! ozportunity. We've got a lot of recogsicion and awards in for- eign countries, as weil as these short film- makers, whom I've mentioned, who are focused, talented, savvy, and wilt ali be significant filmmakers. +++ Dippong is stepping into a tion as an Dippons is ante at Teed November. He'll be assessing new projects, and administering the diswibution of funds to Western Canadian filmmakers. This is a newly created position, which previously was administered from the Montreal office (which may explain why, previously, there was such 2 lack of fund- ing that filtered its way out herc).
