THE following are highlights from the Feb, 13 North Shore Health Board meeting: @ New name suggestcd for Health Board: The North Shore Health Board has voted to change its name to the North Shore Health Region. The North Shore Health Region will continue to be governed by the current board of health directors, who will continue to be referred to as the “board.” B Union representative appointed: Judy Kendel, a psychiatric nurse at Lions Gate Hospital, has been appointed as the union representative on the board for the North Shore Health Region. @ North Shore Health con- tract extended: The Ministry of Health requested an extension to March 31, 1997, of the exist- ing agreement between the North Shore Health Region and the North Shore Union Board of Health (North Shore Health). This means that the trans- fer of North Shore Health to the North Shore Health Region will likely coincide with the start of the next fiscal year: April 1, 1997. The Community Development and Communications task group (COED) has completed its mandate and a motion will be brought forward to dissolve the task group at the next board meeting. @ Measles update: Dr. Brian O°Connor, Public Health Officer for the North Shore Health Region, reported there have been four confirmed cases of Red Measles on the North Shore. This is a serious illness and North Shore Health staff have been working hard to respond to this matter. Immunization programs are in place for all post-secondary students and all heaith care workers. @ Service Delivery Model planning process: Input has been received from community representa- ives, health service providers and staff, regarding a pro- posed new model for integrat- ing health services in the North Shore Health Region. Four general forums have been scheduled over the next two weeks to provide feed- back on the information that has been gathered and to pro- vide an update en the status of plans to integrate heaith ser- vices on the North Shore. @ Appointment made: Former North Var ouver District. mayor = Murray Dykeman has been appointed as the board representative on the Lions Gate Hospital Pediatric Building Committee. @® Financial statement pre- sented: The North Shore Home Support Servic Revenue and Expenses was received by the board. @ Status of Amalgama- tions/Transfers: North shore Health and West Vancouver Kiwanis are expected to legally transfer to the North Shore Health Region within the next few months. Discussions are taking place with the Ministry for Children and Families regard- ing the alcohol and drug pro- grams of Seaview. It is expected that the adult counsellors will fall under the responsibility of the North Shore Health Region, while those programs for chil- dren and youth will become the responsibility of the Ministry for Children and Families.
