REAL ESTATE CMHC honors B.C. resident with prestigious nat’] award PHILIP (PIP) Holmes was recently presented Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s (CMHC) Distinguished Realtor Award at the annual Cana- dian Real Estate Association (CREA) conference in Vic- toria. “It’s very fitting that we honor, at this conference in Victoria, Mr. Holmes who was born and educated here and who, for more than. 20 years, was the president of a real estate business founded by his great grandfather,” said CMHC chairman, Claude Bennett in pres- eniing the award on behalf of Elmer MacKay, minister responsible for CMHC. CMHC’s Distinguished Realtor Award is presented annuaily to individuals within the real estate com- munity who have distinguished themselves through their accomplish- ments. “This year’s winner has done so locally, provin- cially, nationally and inter- nationally,”’ noted Bennett. Internationally, Holmes served as president of the Canadian Chapter of the Paris-based International Real Estate Federation (FIABC Canada) and was the first Canadian to serve as FLABC's world president. In that capacity, he headed FIABC’s delegation at a number of United Nations’ functions, including the World Habitat conference in Vancouver. He was chair- man of the FIABC World Congress when it was held in Toronto. His directorships have in- cluded the United States National Association of Re- altors. At the aational level, he has held a number of posi- tions with CREA, culminating in the presiden- cy. He is a fellow of the Rea! Estate Institute of Canada and was a member of the Canadian Housing Design Council. He served as president of the British Columbia Association of Real Estate Boards, and as Governor of the Professional Division of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia. In his native Victoria, Holmes has held several Positions of prominence in- cluding the presidency of: the Victoria Real Estate Board; the Victoria Downtown Business Association; the Victoria Insurance Agents Associa- LONSDALE OFFICE 2996 LONSDALE AVENUE tion; and the Greater Vic- toria Chamber of Com- merce. He also served as chair- man of the Provincial Capi- tal Commission and Vice- Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Victoria. Holmes is a member of the Board of Gevernors of the Victoria Commonwealth Games Society and is in- volved in the preparations for the 15th Commonwealth Games which will be held in Victoria in 1994. In addition to all of these achievements, Holmes serv- ed in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, and retired as a squadron leader. He receiv- ed the Distinguished Flying Crass. He is honorary aide-de- camp to the current lieutenant-governor of Brit- ish Columbia, a position he has held with three previous lieutenant-governors of the Province. He is also an honorary colonel of the H {Victoria) Service Battalion. “It should come as no surprise that such a distinguished individual has been named an honorary citizen of the City of Vic- toria,’’ added Bennett.
