Mayors disagree over costs of contractual obligations From page 1 still supported the watershed log- ging decision despite Sager’s assertions of no legal responsibili- ty for the GVRD. “ “He has evidence that I haven’t seen,’? Loucks said. ‘‘It’s the first Pye heard of it. | don’t know whether that would have changed my mind. He's a lawyer, and law- yers aren’t always right. I don’t always agree with the other two North Shore mayors.”’ ‘We've been working on this for three or four years. 1 think it’s time we made a decision. We made it today. It was the most responsible decision. It was a legal commitment.’’ The board also approved water committee recommendations to postpone any further watershed. logging under the ‘low-level, pro-active’ approach and instead restrict logging to trees currently afflicted with disease or pestilence or prone to forest fire until an ecological inventory is completed within three years. Healthy stands would therefore remain untouched, even if they are considered susceptible to disease. ne (These writs were filed with the court registry in Vancouver be- tween Sept. 15 and Sept. 30, 1992. information is taken from the Statements of claim.)
