THE CITY of North Vancouver
Fire Department cooked up a win
in the Clam Chowder Contest at
Waterfront Park Sunday, going
home with the overall prize.

In the professional category,
April in Portugal restaurant from
Vancouver took top spot, with
North Vancouver’s Sailor Hagars
Pub being named runner-up.

The city firefighters also racked
up top spot in the corporation cat-
egory, with an honorable mention
going to the North Vancouver
Chamber of Commerce.

Contest veterans The Clam
Bellies bellied up the task of cook-
ing the best cream clam chowder
this side of Boston and won the
public category.

Honorable mention in the public

category went to the Dishwasher
Special team.

‘In a tie for the costume/decor
prize, the title went to Sailor
Hagars and Caesar and_ his
Clamatos from North Vancouver
District engineering department.

Heaven cooked as never before,
but failed to woo the panel of

Furstenwald. ‘‘This year was one
of the best, very successful,”’

With the winning chowder bare-
ly eaten, the support for next ycar
has already started — with a $100
donation from Albion Fisheries for
next year’s event.
