Mailbox Man's WOr;r id could use a female touch Dear Editor: I'ma 25-year-old mass, single, and a little ashamed. It's a man’s world, so they say, but if that’s the case it could use a female touch. Let me explain. A close friend of mine is a single mother with two children. Pve known her for three-and-a-half vears a fair and equitable manner. She deals with constant come-ans. She deals with the responsibility and the reality of supporting and caring for a family. teachers, day care, babysitters...nved fo on? A man couldn't handle the life of this close, dear She deals with the housework, now, and, believe me, it's been an eye-opening expe- rience. I've been fortunate enough to see how it is to live on the female side of the tracks, moreover, the divorced fernale side. Since day one she’s dealt with the court system, a system which seems determined to make it as bloody hard as possible for women to obtain even a reason- able life for themselves and their children. She's dealt with Revenue Canada, an unforgiving, blood-sucking bureaucracy which seems unable to enforce its rules in frignd of mine. Mm certain of that. During all of the stress, she’s mapawed to keep it all together. She's fit, healthy, sane, and without sounding chauvinistic. a very attractive oman indeed, I've always respected women in general more than | have men. Vhe past three years have further strengthened that respect. As for the other half of the human race, take a closer look, gents, and appfeciate. In both editions, the editor supports strongly the pro- choice side on the issue of ‘safe, therapeutic hospital abortion(s).”’ He fails to indicate what is “safe’? or ‘‘therapeutic’’ about abortion, either for the pregnant woman or the mutilated baby. He should invite an informed medical doctor to give readers such infor- mation. His concluding sentence in a re- cent paper was provocative: “‘North Shore residents have recognized that the relationship between a doctor and his patient is of all lite right to choose.’’ The science of fetology, recognized by all medical doctors us a valid discipline, treats an unborn baby as a patient. The editor of the News should do like- wise and support the principle of the sacredness of the relationship between doctors and ail patients. The editor should also be aware many modern fathers ure present at the very births of their babies and wish to be considered, along with their wives, in all decisions affecting the lives of their babies. The editor of a local newspaper, serving the needs of the whole community, should be objective through ail issues and concerns of the community.
