Not only has it provided her with steady employment as a blood donor clinic coordinator for the past eight vears, but she is alive today because of the blood she received during two life-saving cancer operations. “T was lying in intensive care, watching the blood dripping into Deadline nears for CANADA WORLD Youth (CWY) recently launched its 1987 recruit- ment campaign. This year 800 young people are expected to participate in CWY exchanges. CWY, funded in part by the Canadian International Develop- ment Agency (CIDA) is now in its 16th consecutive year. Young people between the ages of 17 and 20 are offered a unique experience in learning about development and cross cultural communication both in Canada and a developing country. These young Canadians will be joined by an equal number of par- ticipants from a Third World country in Asia, Africa or Latin America. They will spend seven months living and working in vast- ly different cultures and com- munities. . Small teams of participants, each with a Canadian and ex- change country group leader, in- tegrate themselves into com- munities, first in Canada then overseas, through volunteer work in fields such as agriculture, coop- eratives, social services, small businesses, recreation and com- munity groups. All costs during the program, such as food, lodging and trans- portation, are covered by Canada World Youth. Even some pocket money is provided. Canada World Youth's first program starts in May/June and the application deadline is Jan. 16, 1987, The second program starts in August/September, and the ap- plication deadline for this is March 6, 1987.
