Mailbox Don't open racial f Dear Editor: I would like to place myself firmly behind Doug Collins and agree with 95 per cent of what he writes in your paper. Difficult as it may be to for- mulate a polite reply to dim- wits. like Alan Regan or Frances of York University — I shall try. Why Doug had been: bounced from all so-called “respected institutions’ is obvious to anybody who can still think. Ninety per cent of all. newspapers in - our democratic society -are here for only one purpose: to make money. The public gets informed and also quite often “‘misinformed’’. whatever. may be beneficial to the-cir- culation. Very very for- tunately the North Shore News does not fall into this category. And now my _ opinion about racism, a subject 1 believe I am qualified to talk about after visiting nearly 50 countries and seeing many races ‘and nationalities at close hand. Neither I nor Doug would go along with the Ku Klux Klan and stcp all immigra- tion from Asia or Africa but atthe same time | am dead set against opening the floodgates. Ido think that nationalities that contributed moast-right vp to the late '60s should have ai least equal oppor- tunities (numberwise) to enter Canada. It makes me sick to see a man coming from the Far East to establish a ‘egal bridgehead and a year or two later God knows how many children, his wife, father mother and a dozen other relatives arrive. This obvious- ly does not happen with most European immigrants and a very sad imbalance of na- tionalities becomes more and more obvious. One more thought about human, rights and religious freedom. Sikhs believe they have a right to carry their traditional dagger in public and even in court. Fortunate- ly this nonsense was not per- mitted recently in Manitoba. Only an idiot can argue against one basic fact: You have to obey the laws and customs of the country to which you emigrated. Sup- pose we would go to India and shoot a cow because we like to cat steak? Or we go to Saudi Arabia and insist on our drink before dinner, in each case we would end up in jail. Or even minor viola- tions, such as trying to enter a Catholic Church in Latin countries when you are only clad in beach shorts — you may not end up in jail but local people would surely show you where you belong. Why is it that 48 out of 50 nationalities in Canada are Guilty please stand Dear Editor: | I would like to know if there “ are large numbers of you out there or are you one and the. , --.son who lets your dog out‘in same person.
