How to make a Javex-type
solution.

Dissolve 1/2 Ib. of washing
soda in a quart of cold water,
then add 1/4 Ib. of chloride of
lime with the lumps crushed.
Let the mixture stand until the
sediment setties. Draw off the
clear liquid, straining it through
a fine cloth (not cheesecloth).
Put the clear liquid in opaque
plastic or brown glass bottles,
and keep it tightly stoppered.

Correcting a leaky
refrigerator door.

if your refrigerator frosts up
more than it should, one pro-
bilem is that the seal around
the door is not making a total
closure. It will then allow warm
air to leak inside. Even though
the rubber appears in good
condition, the closure may not
be perfect.

To test for this, hold a dollar
bill half in and half out of the
door, close the door on it. If the
bill can be withdrawn with iit-
tle effort, the closure at this
point isn't tight enough. Work
the bill around the entire door.
If there are many weak spots,
the entire seal should be
replaced. tf only two or three,
cover each weak spot with
strips of several thicknesses of
black plastic tape. Do this un-
