— Se Pub decision ‘preposterous’ Dear Editor: The decision of West Vancouver municipality against Sager’s pub has come aS an unexpected, un- pleasant and unwanted surprise. I view the decision that was made as completely preposterous! Not only am | disappointed that a simple pleasure has been denied me, but I am particularly annoyed that the council members who voted this down showed no respect for those of us who, by mail vote, indicated their desire for and approval of this facility (the mail vote showed the majority wanted the pub). One might con- clude that we were all fresh from the Booby Farm and Dear Editor: In your issue 13th March 1983, a letter from the good doctor described better than [I can the sickening hyprocnisy of our elected representatives. In my opinion, it is even sadder that his comments apply to others of this breed in the Lower Maimland where it seems obvious these people prefer to maintain. the degenerate dnnking habits in beer panours. From self appointed supenor born and bred Canadians, many times I! have received the same kind of smug comment: “But don't) you find Canadians can't dank?” My reply in- vanably 1s, “What kind of even half civilised person could — who for the last few generations and until recently have had no chuice but to dnnk in the degrading conditions cnforced tn beer parlours?” Probably more than any- thing cise these places have reflected the sick contempt in. which inhabitants have been - and in so many cases stit are — held by our clected “supenors”. 1 know! In the hecensed premises | have owned here and in England, | have had the = pleasure of including patrons many in ternatonalty known peoplic most importantly a pre dominance of Uordinary” pcople, none ol whom caused problems With few caceptions, all people respond to civility courtesy and civilised surroundings to Mer Sager and his more than 66% vote Crond luck from the publ By what mehe dare the councth reyect the pubis opinion by a vote of S against aad of confide nec only onc in had to be told what ts best for us! And that 1s an insult to my intelligence. The mext time our municipal vote is cast, you can be sure that my ap- praisal of candidates for council will have a _ real work-out before I cast a single vote, and when I do, it will be for a_ broad- shouldered fellow who has been out and around a bit and gained some well- rounded philosophies concerning a natural, healthy and advantageous environment ... and above all he will have some sense of responsiblity in carrying out the wishes of those who put him in office. The majority of NV District have signed a petidon letting our mayor know that our Rescue and Safety Mini-Pumper is of the utmost importance to us and | that we are prepared to pay Apology owed to council Dear Editor: Whilst I appreciate the disappointment that Alderman Ernie Crist must feel after his efforts to retain employment for the nine firemen had failed, I believe that his letter in Mailbox of March 9 was most insulting to the other six members of District Council. The suspicions, stated by _ Alderman Crist, thai the rest of council is determined to work for the benefit of big business is ridiculous and could only be beheved by the few persons following Alderman Crist’s peculiar QUICHE—BURGERS the few dollars a year more to keep our safety up to the standards we are ac- customed to. What ever happed to. “The majority rules”, and has our illustrious mayor forgotten how she got elected and who she represents? To remind our mayor, Marilyn Baker, the “majority” got you elected political philosophies. Without a doubt. the municipal and school tax formulas are unfair and need complete revision but unless Alderman Crist can prove WAter Skiers!
