For any of you planning to visit the exotic ‘city of Hong Kong in the near future, here are some tips from a _ former resident now a proud Canadian citizen and local businessman. ° wise by Barbara McCreadie He suggests taking a tour that includes your airfare and accommodation BUT he recommends staying with the tour group for a very short time before branching out on your own. He tells me that taxis aren't expensive, English is taught in all the schools and it’s no problem to get around. Towards the end of July the typhoon season begins and carties on until September or October and he tells me that we'd be well advised to stay home during that quirk of nature. Two weeks is a sensible length of time to visit Hong Kong and if you wish to include a trip to the People's Republic of China you should allow another two weeks. Ferries leave regularly for Kowloon (mainiand area of Hong Kong) and aren't expensive. A decent (not first class) hotel can be arranged for about $25 anda deluxe one will be about $60. I'd be a but careful about booking that $25 job and book it through a travel agent who has experience in this area. Matthew says that he would check out an agency that had lots of Chinese-Canadian customers travelling regularly to the Far Eat if you're looking for a bargain in hotels.
