United Press Canada A—New— Democratic _. government would compel Canadian banks to grant a larger proportion of loans to small businesses, lower interest rates and take other measures to bolster the small business sector, Ed Broadbent pledged Monday. In a Campaign appearance before some 100 Toronto businessmen, the NDP leader lambasted the previous Conservative and Liberal administrations for their policies towards small business. Clark, invited to address the National Action Com- mittee on the Status of Women, fielded nearly a dozen questions from the _ audience after his speech. Clark said he and Em- ployment Minister Ron Atkey, who attended the meeting of about 350 people, would. —em- ployment strategy which would go beyond improved access to government jobs.
