Exchange Students HIGH school students from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa on exchange to Canada this January are eagerly waiting to hear from North Shore fam- ilies interested in host- ing them for 5 to ten menths. The students’ visic to Canada is being organized by Student Travel Schools Inc. (STS), a non-profit exchange organization that offers. stu- dents and host families around world the chance learn about another culture. “Hosting a teenager from another part of the world is a fun and rewarding experience for the entire family, and its a great way for a community to learn about places beyond its backyard,” said Sheila Hoeg, who heads up the office of STS in British Columbia. The students, who are between 15- and 18-years-of- age, undergo an extensive screening process before being accepted into the program,: and are chosen for their matu- rity, academic achievement and adaptability. Participating students provide their own spending money for personal itemsesuch as clothing and toi- letries, and are fully insured in case of illness or accident. “This January will ser a new milestone for STS as we welcome exchange students from South Africa for the first time,” said Hoeg, Being, a host family means sharing your home and way of life with a boy or girl eager to learn about you and Canada.
