By Surj Rattan News Reporter During the crossing, commuters will likely have an assortment of things on their minds. It is highly unlikely, however, that their thoughts would be focused on how people crossed the Burrard Inlet in earlier times. 44 The exhibit includes everything from a bench that used to be onan old ferry to the buttons attendants wore .. .99 But the history of crossing Bur- tard Inlet is the focus of a new exhibit at the North Vancouver Museum called Tokens 2nd Tolls: Burrard Inlet by Ferry and Bridye. The exhibit, which is frec, in- cludes everything from s bench that used to be on an old ferry that crossed between North Van- couver and Vancouver, to the but- tons ferry attendants wore on their uniforms. “All of the items have been donated over a number of years. We have things that were left behind at city hall, when city hall used to be at the Presentatica House,” said museum curator John Stuart. ‘We have a whole bunch of tokens, hundreds of tokens. We also have a stained-glass window from the old ferry building that used to be focated on the east side of Lonsdale.’’ The exhibit 12-minute video, “*The Gepartment of Highways gave us a video of construction of the bridges. lt was 30 minutes of color footage with no sound. We took it to a North Vancouver company and they re-did it with a voice over and music from that era,”’ said Stuart. He added that the exhibit il- lustrates both the histery and de- velopment of North Vancouver and the effect the ferry service and bridges had, and continue to have, on the community.
