10 - Wednesday, July 24, 1991 - North Shore News Anna Marie INQUIRING REPORTER THE SOCIAL CREDIT leadership race was the focus of local news reports over the weekend, ending weeks of speculation and attention regarding who will lead the party in the next election. Premier Rita Johnston won a close vote over Grace McCarthy, who recent polls claim was the only candidate that could lead the Socreds to victory in the next provincial election. Johnston must call a provincial election this year. And when that voting date is set, residents who dislike politics will have to en- dure more pre-ciection ‘‘hype’’ and coverage which will likely involve at least the same amount of attention given to the Socred leadership race.
