OPEN LETTER TO JOHN BREMNER, NORTH VANCOUVER DISTRICT ENGINEER As a resident of Deep Cove and a member of the Deep Cove boating community, I am incensed at the thinly-veiled attempts of the district to once again in- sinuate boat owners as the source of the hygienic problems which have plagued Cove beaches for some years. Recent remarks which were credited to you once again appear to shift the blame for this recurring problem to a group which is easily identified and serves as a ready scapegoat. These statements, although based on mere assump- tions by your staff or consultants, convey the authori- ty of fact. Unfortunately, they are little more than velf-serving innuendo. As you may recall, several years ago the same scenario that saw boaters as the culprit was quickly remedied by repairing faulty storm sewers in the north end of Panorama Park. This was done practically under the cover of darkness and no statement or apology redressed the allegations made at that time. Davis should consult constituents |: Last year, the same theme was raised again, only to see the source of the pollution upstream one of the major creeks entering the Cove. The last word on this was the district working hard to identify just where the leakage(s) occurred. What has happened to this research? I am annoyed to see boat owners in Deep Cove, whom I knowas a veryresponsible groupof community citizens, once again made the scapegcat for problems the district has not solved. J am equally annoyed that once again a scenario is being built up which predictably will see Panorama Park being closed for the very time it is needed this summer. This has happened over the last two years. I think it is time for the district to be more con- structive to find a solution to this recurring nuisance than to blame pleasure boaters. Please do not wait for summer to find and clean up the pollution sources. Do it now. Manfred W. Resag North Vancouver north and south of Nanaimo. Dear Editor: Jack Davis, MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour, suggests that the provincial government should consiruct a new ferry terminal on Gabriola Island instead of building two new super class ferries to al- leviate ferry congestion to Van- couver Island as suggested in the budget speech. ; He argues that the cost, time and distance would better serve the provincial government and the + . I am a single parent and we have had our share of ups and downs. travelling public. Mr. Davis fails to recognize that there are four shipyards in hi+ riding, employing some 1,000 workers whom he represents. On behalf of these workers, we strong- ly take exception to his outlandish theories. Tum-around time for a ferry us- ing this route may indeed be faster; however, it is questionable whether the traveller would save a great deal of time on a trip to points give mom My children asked me what I would like for a Mother's Day gift. I decided that this day would be very special to me. You see, after saving very hard, my son had his Nishiki mountain bike stolen from outside the 7- Eleven store on Tuesday evening. 1 Indeed residents of Gabriola take strong exception to four- or six-lane highways cutting through their community and spoiling the rural setting of their island. Mr. Davis would be well advised to consult with his constituents be- fore shooting from the hip. Jobn Fitzpatrick, president Marine Workers’ and Boller- makers’ Industrial Union perfect gift would be very grateful if who ever took the bike would return it to where it was taken from. That would be a perfect gift for Mother’s Day. Vivienne Lecoultre North Vancouver Calif New Cro ONIONS § F ° R y od. WHITE POTATO Calif. New Crop 7 - Sanday, May 14, 1989 - North Shore News J.
