THE NORTH Vancouver
Slowpitch League is now half
way through its regular
season, but the cham-
pionship ts still wide open.

Last week the undefeated
Tokeland A’s crumbled 21-
18 before a close offensive
battle with St. Alice Hotel,
currently in fourth.

In other games, the
Masterbatters squeaked by
the Sungers 12-11 and the
Mantime Scorpions had a
late game drive to defeat the
Newcomers 14-11. The
Squids also easily won over
tronhorse.

REGULAR PLAY is con-
tinuing in the North Shore
Softball Association league,
but the season ts getting an
extra boost next weekend
with the first annual Moisons
Invitational Tournament
sponsored by the club.

Slated for July 2, 3 and 4,
the toumey will feature 16
teams in double knockout
action, with a sudden death
championship game.

Although there ts an entry
fee of $160 per team, the top
four finishers win a sizeable
prize — $1,000 for first, $500
for second, $300 and $160
for third and fourth, plus a
perpetual trophy and keeper
for the champs.

There will also be in-
dividual awards for MVP,
top batter, top pitcher and
all star team.

The Red Sox then went on
to win the series, taking the
Angels 9-7 and 13-8 im a
double header

In the Mayor playoffs, the
Dodgers squeaked by the
Mariners 12-11, while the
Maniners took the Giants 9-
3. The final playoff game
will be held today in Myrtle
Park following the league
closing ceremonies at 12:30
p.m.

Pony League has just
finished, with the league
winner determined in an
exciting final game.

The Cardinals blanked the
Reds 5-Oin a well played,
defensive struggle June 13.
The two teams will be joined
by third place Yankees and
the Eagies in the playoffs for
league champions.

In the first semi-final game
played June 15, John Dafoe
led his Yankees with a one
hit 1-0 shut out of the Reds.
But it was quite a duel, with
opposing pitcher Vic Boehn
giving up only two hits and
striking out 14 Yankees.

After each losmg their
first game of the semi-finals,
both the Cardinals and the
Reds won the second and
third games played iast
weckend against the Eagles
and Yankees and began
playmg a best 2 out of 3
series final.
