(Terry Peter photo) Sabres close in on leaders New team looking at playeffs By BILL BELL Sutherland Senior Secondary might be new in the _ highly competitive Burnaby, New Westminster, North Shore _ Senior Soccer League, but nobody is taking them lightly. And why should they? Sutherland Sabres are just two points behind first placed Burnaby Central, and with Wednesday's 4-1 trouncing of last year’s B.C Champs, Carson Graham, they are definitely cham- pionship material. The majority of the players are only in grade 11, but youth is overcome by talent — talent like that displayed by Doug Jensen in the Carson Graham game. Jensen scored the first three goals or a “pure hat trick”, as Sabre coach Vince Alvano explains. Jensen, a grade 11 and member of the B.C. Under 16 Selects, is the leading scorer in the league with 13 goals in nine games. “He’s the kind of center forward a coach loves to have,” says Alvano. “He has everything, he gives you a hundred per cent effort ... a coach couldn't ask for anything more.” In the Carson Graham game, Jensen made it 1-0 at the 24 minute mark and then - Six minutes later made it 2-0 on a penalty shot. The Sabres went into the second half leading 2-0. Jensen scored his third goal of the night at the five minute mark of the second half. Carson Graham came back at the 22 minute mark, but Tony Pensato put the game out of reach with his goal for the winners.
