(lan Smith photo) Major weaving show By OLGA RUSKIN A comprehensive show and sale of weaving by Capilano College Students is being sponsored by the North Vancouver Com- munity Arts Council in the North Vancouver City Hall gallery from May 14 to June VW. The public is invited to the opening at 7:30 pm. on May 14 at which the 14 weavers, students and graduates of the Careers Craft) Option program, will be on hand to discuss their warks This 1s the first time that Capilano College weavers have had such a show in a= public gallery All works in the show are wallpreces and represent vanious types of weaving techmiques such as knotting. basketry, sprang. double weave, pickup and tapestry About 25 wallpreces ranging 1999 B > MARINE DRIVE WEST VANCOUVER | SWISS SPORTS HAUS TEL (604) 922 9107 in size from small to large will be displayed. Inctuded as wallpieces are two blankets. In creating the hangings a variety of fibres such as wool, sisal, jute, linen, silk, raffia, goat hair and acrylic have been used. Examples of weaving techniques such as stripweaving, Ikat, Theo Moorman, Dugagang and wrapping are shown. The 14 women in the show are or have been students at PUN at NorthVan City Hall Capilano College ot Rose Naumann and Mieneke Mees. both of whom will be present at the Opening.
