As far as Blair’s con- cerned, his competing in wheelchair sports not only helps the disabled athletes psychologically but also is valuable to the disabled people watching. “The reaction of the handicapped people should be, David’s a good player, I'd like to be able to play like David.” He says the people should then attempt to go out and play table-tennis themselves and thereby build up their confidence. From there they should “maximize their potential,” and that to Blair is the whole purpose behind competing. TABLE-TENNIS is David Blair's first love. OLYMPIC AMBITIONS “I'd like to go the Olympics only if Barry Butler could go to,” says Blair showing the respect he has for his opponent. That’s another reason he hopes to put on a good show in August. “If I can win and make him look good at the same time, then they may take us both.” Now that he feels he is past his prime as a player, Blair is becoming active in other aspects of the sport. He is qualified as both’a coach and an umpire and says he will be acting as an umpire when the Canadian Regional Table-Tennis competition is held out here in May.
