As Christmas time ap- proaches, more and more Canadians head down to’ ‘Washington. to do their shopping on Sundays. It is — too bad to ‘have. to lose all. that. revenue when our own — the. - economy needs all stimulation i it can get. If our stores were open on Sunday,, it would also mean more part-time people could ° be employed. This. issue the Inquiring Reporter asks: ‘‘What do you think of Sunday’ Shopping?” “He talks of ‘students unable. ‘to attend to their work,.. giggling © their. way - through’ mathematics classes in a stoned stupor. . ” and he estimates | that at least 50 per cent of young-' sters experiment with: drugs while passing through the school system, involvement becomes longer ranging and. far more dis- turbing. Police regularly carry out ‘drug busts in local schools’ and make an average of. about two arrests each day they check a school. Friday alone they arrested three juveniles. West Vancouver Police do not have a formal drug squad to monitor the situation but Constable Brian Schierer, of the youth squad, says he has noticed an increase in the use of drugs in schools in the . past three or four months, as well as the presence of chemical drugs. A student at West Vancou- ver Secondary is said to be able to obtain heroin. One possible reason for the increase at West Van may be the difference in price there due to a higher income level.
