These and 23 other prominent North Shore artists have picked up the paintbrush in support of Blooming Artists, a sale of one-of-a- kind painted plant containers and watering cans. The pre-Mather’s Day sale takes place this Saturday, 10a.m. to 3 p.m. atthe Leo Marshall Curriculum Centre in North Vancouver. A sale of hanging baskets and geraniums will accompany the auction of artist’s wares. Art tachers will be on hand to help children create their owa original plant pots and the Lynn Valley Lions Club will be there to teed the hungry crowds. It’s all in support of Artists For Kids, a program that provides enriched visual arts programs tor school-age children and runs the Paradise Valley Summer School of Visual Arts cach year. Norman Foote will be the day’s host and enter- tainer. The Leo Marshall Curricalum Centre is located at 810 W. 21st St., just off Hamilton Avenue in North Vancouver. Boys Choir celebrates its 30th anniver- sary with a matinee concert this Mother’s Day at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. Alumni will join current members in song, pre- senting, many BCBC favourites like Mozart's Missa Brevis in Fand the Toreador’s Song from the opera Carmen. Since its inception, more than 806 boys have sung with the choir, which rehearses w eekly at West Vancouver United Church and performs across the country as well as around the globe. The choir’s past president, John Juliani, and its current artistic director, Gerald van Wyck, will co- host the concert. Tapestry Music’s Community Rebate card allows customers to support a musi- cal organization of their choice through every purchase they make. At season’s end, the store will donate a percentage of the shop- ” per’s total purchase to the designated organization. The program has been a success at Tapestry’s White Rock location, said store owner David Sabourin, who entertained customers at last week- end’s grand opening as a member of the Touch of Brass Quintet. Success is sweet Who said barbershop is for the boys? Vancouver’s Lions Gate Chorus won its sixth regional Sweet Adelines International Championship April 177i in Surrey. The singers beat out 18 other women’s choruses from B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, scoring an unprecedented 630 points. The chorus, which rehearses under the dircetion of Sandy Robinson, is now eligible to compete at the international competition in Orlando, Florida in September 2000.
