NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP arrested on Monday a
man believed to be responsible for eight rebberies on
the North Shore since April 17.

Police investigators had dubbed the suspect “Mac. the
Knife and the “Pink Towel Bandit.” The suspect wore a
Mackinaw coat and used a pink towel in the robberies.

A 26-year-old Squamish man was arrested at about 2 p.m.
folowing a robbery at a market located on Montroyal

Boulevard. An officer driving an unmarked police car spotted
the suspect vehicle at Westview Drive near the Upper Levels
Highway. The car was followed to Hastings and Renfrew in
Vancouver.

Marked RCMP cruisers arrived at the scene and the suspect
was luken without incident.

The suspect, always armed with a knife. is believed to have
held up two beer and wine stores, five small markets and one
7-Eleven store. The suspect has yet to be charged.
