Yesiree, folks, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council is celebrating its 19th year of Felkfest, the annual mutlti-disciplinary, multi-cultural arts festival that features everything from local arts and crafts to South Seas dancers. This year’s event will kick off with a craft fair (running to Saturday, june 26) beginning tomorrow at the Civic Centre at 14th and Lons- dale. A raft of crafts, including pottery, bead work, ceramics, “stained glass’ candles, dried flowers and jewelry, created by some 40 local artisans, are for grabs at reasonable prices. us Folkfest officially opens at Centennial Theatre on Saturday, June 19, and to mark the occasion, organizers have invited _peformers from multi-cultural dance groups such as the Kavital East Indian. Evelyn Jacob NOW REPORT About .75 local groups have been invited to discuss the second phase of the plan at an all-day work session at Capilano College this Saturday, June 19, and the Arts Commission’s cultural devel- opment officer is hoping members of the general public will also at- tend. “One. thing we've learned is, we can’t just talk to ourselves. We need to talk to our potential au- dience,” said Brenda Berck. Participants will be asked to come up with a number of scenarios that would best meet the cultural needs of the North Shore. Those suggestions would then be turned over to an independent consultant. who would = “flesh out’ the plan in terms of siting, space requirements and cost, said Berck.
