from across North America will
hit the trail in Canada’s largest
“rail ultra.’

Run will challenge runners to
16,000 feet (4,900 m) of vertical
change over the 30-mile (48.6 km)
Baden-Powell trail.

The Knee-Knackering event
traces its beginnings to an infor-
mal Sunday jog along the
Baden-Powell Centennial hiking
trail five years ago. The rugged,
natural beauty of the area, com-
bined with the challenge of run-
ning the ever-changing trail, has
proven to continue to challenge
the most hardened competitors.

Race director Enzo Federico
said that all starting positions for
the popular race were allocated
within the first few weeks of Feb-
ruary.

The North Shore Ultra
Trailrunning Society (NUTS) is
an informal group of runners
planning several events leading up
to the big race.

Trail runners and strong road
runners are invited to participate
in free. trail running clinics. The
organized runs leave Cleveland
Dam (oif Capilano Road in North
Vancotver) at 5:30 p.m. Wednes-
days and § a.m. Sundays.

NUTS has also adopted the sec-
tion of trail between the Grouse

family members who provide food
and fogistical support on race day
