North Van- anticipated a provincial election, and it didn’t happen, of course, due to Fantasy Gardens and Mr. Vander Zalm’s problems. The delay certainly worked into our game plan.”’ Dalton credits the delay of call- ing an election as one of the key reasons why the Liberals were able to put together a strong team, and why he was able to defeat the in- cumbent Reynolds. Not many people thought the Liberals would take 17 seats, let alone form the officiat Opposi- tion. But something in the back of Dalton’s head said 17 was the magic number. ‘*Funnily enough, the day be- fore the election I wrote down my personal’ guess, and I said 17. [ don’t know where I got that number from,”’ says Dalton. Has his life changed very much. since being elected? **I think it’s safe to say it has. if guess the demands on one’s time ‘is the most noticable thing. There are many requests, social, political and otherwise,’’ says Dalton. “That's fine, I expected . that. After all, ’'m now a public fig- ure.”” Dalton says he has always con- sidered himself to be a middle- of-the-road person, which is why he decided to run for the Liberals, a party he has always supported. But, admits Dalton, not all Liberals think alike. “That doesn’t mean that I don’t take points of view that are different from other Liberals.
