The project will add a structure to the east and another to the west of the’ present library along with a pavilion on top of the ‘present park- ing deck. A complete reorganization and modemization of the existing facilities will also be carried out. The Memorial Library is one of North America’s most heavily used libraries, with activity levels 50 per cent higher than the lower mainland average on a Per capita basis. The library which was begun in 1950 with 3,000 books and a staff of three now has a staff of 60 who oversee 185,000 books and chousands of pieces of support information . ~ More than 30,000 people now: pass through the building every month - > More than 765,000 items are borrowed annually 00,000 reference questions are asked per day.
