Council had received a fet-_ ter from the Community Residents Association of the lower Capilano area asking for action on promised traf- fic and neighborhood studies. “Council moved the municipal engineer., to ‘in-- vestigate improvements along Hope Road .and -to report back on tree planting along the Boulevard; an in- | vestigation of an earlier start time.on a proposed planning study, scheduled to begin'i in the fall, and to conduct ‘it in concert with a traffic study with: emphasis on | Marine drive; and' a request to RCMP to monitor Hope and Tatlow Roads for traffic and -§ speeding violations. The letter to council said street landscaping and berms - had been promised after the widening of Hope Road and . |... Garden Avenue but, never put in place. Ald. ‘Ernie Crist told council that he saw. a need to meet with residents... Crist ‘said continued development - in the Marine Drive area doesn't do traffic problems any geod. Ald, Stephen McMinn urged council to act quickly. “The only way to get the project accelerated is to select consultants to do the work. We made a request months ago and the study could have been done by now.”’ Three ‘residents ‘ appeared before counci! with com- plaints. Jerome Irwin of 1398 Hope Rd. said residents in lower Capilano have to deal with traffic on a day to June. 3-8. June 10-15. day basis. ‘‘It’s a. speed run,’'irwin said. ‘‘The qual- ity of life is very bad due to -the traffic.’ Irwin said resi- dents want an immediate reponse to the problems raised in the letter to council and do not want to wait for a “neat, detailed study.’’ Dave Gardner, of 1726 Tatlow, asked council if results of the planned study will affect traffic on his street. Gardner told council commuters take a shost cut along Tatlow to Capilano Road and he expressed con- cern for safety, saying many of the drivers were travelling at speeds in excess of the . speed limit. Wayne Howell, of 1378 W. 37th, was assured by council that the traffic study would include Marine Drive - from Capilano ‘through Bewicke.
