We had planned to take the train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh where you catch the ferry for Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye. According to the brochure I had, this train car- nies an observauion car which must be booked tn advance. By BARBARA McCREADIF ‘*Two seats in the observa- ton car for tomorrow, please’’ earned me the infor- mation that the train doesn't run on Sundays after mid- September, completely foul- ing our schedule. The last thing we wanted to do was to waste another day in [n- verness - two days 1s quite enough! So, that’s how we ended up eating Sunday dinner in Merlin’s Chinese Restaurant. Inverness is hardly a swinging city at the best of times but on Sundays they rol! up the Air Canada makes it easy. No one offers you more sun & fun destinations. And no one packages more unbeatable holiday bargains So don't settle for just any vacation, call your travel agent or Air Canada at 688-5515 and insist on one of the hottest deals under the sun All Touran Sud Charter package proces me houde ereturh airfare ein flight meals ec car rental for 7 day: or round trp transfers e 7 maghts accommodation eservices Of a Jouram representative e beach bag All prices are pen person based on doutole Orc Upanie y Ptfie t#ortesdstl Wet »«» streets. Merlin’s had two ad- vantages - it was just down- stairs from our hotel, Arran House on Union Street, and it was open. Actually, you could do a lot worse than eat at Merlin’s - the food 1s quite passable (try Pork, Hong Kong style and the Chicken with cashew nuts) and it’s quite entertain- ing to watch the Scottish diners ordering Chop Suey and chips. Honest. Neat morning we discovered many of our fellow passengers on the train had been stranded in In- verness just as we had. That meant the train was quite crowded and the observation car fully booked. The ferry trip to Skye takes all of 8 minutes. If you've got a Britrail pass, flash it and you may not have to buy a ticket. There’s no guarantee, though, as we got over on the rail passes but had to pay on the way back.
