Mexico to. stop, although
some of them defy the laws
of nature and settle per-
manently on our coast.

yelled Kevin as a huge grey
and white shape surged out
of the water. Instead, the

whale spouted again at the °

stern, surfaced, and then
repeated the performance on
the other side of the boat,
showering delighted

flash of lightning was so brief
that we thought someone had
used a flash camera. In
seconds, the
cracking all around the boa
deafening us with
simultaneous cracks of
thunder. A hailstorm left the
decks four inches deep in
stones the size of marbles and
for a few minutes the water
was blanketed in white.

We headed smartly for
Ucluelet! All told, an un-
forgettable morning.
