A7 - Sanday, April 24, 1983 - North Shore News 8 mailbox WCC no ‘crackpots’ Dear Editor: I read the “Sunday Brunch” column in your April 17 issue and was surprised to see that Noel Wright has fallen into the usual news bias of em- phasising separatism as the main platform: of the Western Canada Concept Party. Our news” release following my nomination as the WCC candidate for North Van/Seymour stressed much more im- portant offerings of the WCC which are not available through any other party. For example, the right to initiative, referendum, and recall mean that a WCC MLA would vote in the legislature according to the wishes of his constituency — not necessanly along party lines. No Social Credit or NDP MLA is permitted to do that —- he must vote party policy whether he supports it or not! That is certainly not good government. This election will be close, and with 16 WCC candidates running there is a good chance that 2 or 3 elected WCC MLAs will hold the balance of power in Vic- toria. Then, for the first tme in B.C. history we will have a government which obeys the wishes of the electorate instead of ignoring public opinion between elections. fwo years ago I was a disillusioned Socred, but today I know there is a viable alternatve, made of the stuff that passed Proposition 13 in California. Separatism is not an issue in this election — but sloppy, wasteful, irresponsible government is an issue. I’m Schreck backs variable mill OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR JACK LOUCKS I] share your frustraton over the failure of the Socred government to call the legislature before an election. Had the legislature been convened we would not only have been able to examine the Socred spending and taxing plans, but we would also have avoided the uncertainties currently facing municipalities, school boards and hospitals I am personally committed to a vanable tax or millrate | am sure that you can appreciate that the NDP party cannot comment on specific legislation that has been promised but not made publs by Social Credit) It as) possible that such legislabon has not even been drafted An NDP povernment will assess what work has been Aralt done oon legislation Jobs and the chip FROM PAGE A6__ have a very profound cffect and on That effect will be larger to the catent (Prat on cmployment future prospects Canada fail to adept The single biggest threat posed to the the new technology Canadian standard of living by the now technologies rs that somebody oclse wilh adept them firstand hence gain a sharp compe tilive cape over Canndian producers Phos whe argue strongly tn faves oof Disme thing thre achopetron oof new feo hmobogies ta C anmacha wee therefore prot tvages vecew out tiregely wo prcater thereat tee faatuere peotes Una thee ew tee Ntveobeopey rtse df [re Wither is dire tet of the Niue cet Pavel braves Jevstrtute consult immediately after the election with the UBCM and eliminate the uncertainties. David Schreck North Van-Seymour NDP Candidate sick of a government that will not listen, and I’m sick of never knowing when an election will be held — our policy ensures pre-set election dates and _ true participatory democracy. This is no crackpot party —- we have a large team of dedicated people working for us despite poor news coverage, so please try to take us seriously. I know we ‘ will surprise you on May 5.
