B4 - Wednesday, February 17, 1982 - North Shore News ES Sport HOCKEY PLAYOFFS Canadians fight back LUCKY WENNER of the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Yic's Juvenile “B” raffle, Andree Harrison, receives $500 cheque from team captain Mike Buhr, making - presentation on behalf of the team and coaches Mike Marshall and Al Stewart, and team manager Pat Coffey. Raffle was held to help finance the team’s forthcoming hockey dip to Seattle and Los Angeles in April. Rounding out the team’s money rais- ing drive will be a Casino Night slated for mid-March. STANDINGS ARE im and teams from all over the North Shore are preparing for a deluge of high school basketball tournaments. Except for a couple of teams, most tournament play results were not available at News press time. The top four finishers in each class enter the double knockout tourney play. In the intermediate league, the Canadians fought back last Friday to win the first game of their series with Hollyburn Lumber after fall- ing behind 3-0 in the first five minutes. Canadian goalie Dave Bucknell shut Hollyburn out completely after that, and the Canadians went on to win 6-3, led by Wayne Gray with 2 goals. in the other Friday game, Cottrell Forwarding demolished the North Shore News 9-3 to take the lead in that best out of three series. League scoring champion Dave Watson scored 4 goals for Cottrell. On Saturday, Larry's Sports Shop jumped into the lead in their series, doubling Metro 8-4. In the senior league, the Black Hawks prevented the Flames from moving up into third place with a 9-5 drubb- ing last Sunday. Jim Tapp and Norm Nikkei each had a hat trick for the Hawks while Pat Patterson had his first goal of the season. In the other game, the Drillers beat B.C. Tel 7-2. Both B.C. Tel goals were scored by 53 year old Don Coates. This weekend features the beginning of playoffs for the senior league, and do or die games for Hollyburn, the North Shore News and Metro Tramsit in the in- termediate league. On Friday, February 19 at 9 p.m. Holtyburn hosts the Canadians at the Rec Cen- tre; with the News hosting Cottrell at 10:30 p.m. On Saturday at 8:45 p.m. Metro hosts Larry's. The senior playoffs begin Sunday at 6:45 p.m. with the Flames and the Drillers fac- ing off. Black Hawks and B.C.
