For instance, in the area of pensions, young people who may not be interested in contributing to a pension plan will not be required ta do so until they are 25 years old. And, women can look forward to additional maternity benefits. Although the regulations are intended to treat men and women equally, they do make certam distinctions that ensure a fair degree of equity. She explains, “the law allows distinction on an actuarial basis, meaning that because women live longer, the rate of contribution to cover women in pension and group insurance plans will be different,” she said. Because it covers. all federally-regulated com- panies and federal govern- ment employees, the effects of the new law are now being felt throughout the country. “They apply to banks, transportation companies such as Air Canada and the Canadian Nationa! Railways, telecommunications comp- anies like Bell Canada, and all federal government departments.” Obviously that represents a huge percentage of the Canadian work force. It may not be long before benefit regulations could be broadened to include em- ployees in the private sector, too. Pittman, 41, was charged TJuesday with two counts of bigamy but says there is a fourth wife police don't know about living with him in north St. Louis. “He told us that he didn't think a divorce was necessary.” said detective Boley Hendricks. “But he said he knew he was doing wrong.” Police said records m- dicated Pittman has two wives in St. Louis and one in Mississippi.
