(Terry Peters photo) i fy n automobile ga Playoff hopes kept alive WV Rockets split pair After putting their backs to the wall with a 5-4 loss to the Chiefs at Maple Ridge on Saturday night, the Rockets kept their playoff hopes alive with a spirited 6-3 win over the North Van Mountaineers Sunday at West Van Arena. In Sunday's action the Rockets held a commanding edge in territorial play in the first two periods, out- shooting the Mountaineers 33-13 while building up a 5-1 lead. : But it took the Rockets fourteen minutes into the first period before they were able to get their first goal by Mountaineer netminder Chris Kozak. And Danny Griffiths got that one from the face-off in the Moun- taineer zone, tapping in Barry Penman’s shot from the point coming on the draw from Jim Buhr. Then just before the period ended the Rockets made it 2-0 on Buhr’s deflection from Rex Biedier. Late in the second period the West Van team stretched their lead to three when Jeff Durrant scored six seconds into a Rocket power play on the relay from Dave Harvey and Penman. The Rockets then managed two more before the period ended, with Penman scoring from Dan Corrigan, and Durrant connecting with his second of the game on Harvey's rebound. Ross Wheatley got the Mountaineers on the scoreboard at the 18:27 mark of the period, leaving the Rockets in front 5-1 going into the third. The Mountaineers came on strong in the final frame, picking up goais by Don McEown and Cliff Johnston, with the Rockets’ lone CONTINUED ON PAGE B2
